Many factors go in to deciding the college you choose to attend and as you do your research, you will find that the right accreditation is one of the most important factors. Accreditation is a voluntary, independent review of educational institutions and the programs they offer, carried out by a recognized third party. This is done with the aim to ensure that the institution has been evaluated and has met the predetermined criteria of quality education. Accreditation is important because not only is it a stamp assuring quality education, but also because a degree from an accredited institution is more likely to be recognized by future employers.

Which makes you wonder- who accredits these institutions?

Well, in the United States, accrediting organizations can be divided into three categories; namely- regional accreditation organizations, national accrediting organizations and specialized accrediting organizations. These accrediting organizations should be recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and/or a private organization called the Council for Higher Accreditation (CHEA). Stevens-Henager College provides online as well as on-campus associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees in programs ranging from business to healthcare. The college has been accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) which has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The commission has been consistently recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education ever since 1967. It evaluates all the aspects of the college, that is, the management and administration; facilities and equipment; institutional implementation; program length and learning resources; faculty qualifications and instructional delivery method; admission policies and practices; fees and financial aid; student services etc.

An institution is given the chance to set their goals and educational objectives, and is evaluated by ACCSC based on its ability to achieve the goals in accordance with the commission's standards. The commission's main concern is outcome of education a student receives at the institution.

They focus on:

· Recruitment and admissions- fees and financial aid

· Nature of student body- homogenous or diverse

· Resources- instructors and their qualifications, equipment, facilities

· Program- length and course details

· Testing procedures and assignments

· Skills, competencies and knowledge procured by the students

· Graduation rates
